IOTA Foundation announced another strategic partnership for data transmission and processing in sensor networks, this time with SUSEE.

SUSEE (short for Secure Sensor Platforms for Smart Energy Networks) is a collaboration between the energy distribution network operator SWO Netz; the two research institutes Fraunhofer FIT/IPT, the university TU Chemnitz, and the SMEs peerOS, mCloud Systems, and TIP. The organization has chosen IOTA Tangle as the primary technology for managing big sensor networks.

Digitized Data Management for Energy Distribution

The energy management industry has seen lots of changes and progress in the past decades. The most important innovation is digitization in this industry that comes with numerous benefits for monitoring and managing the distribution channels and saving more energy. Using sensors for monitoring the distribution network is now a must.

Many players in the industry install sensors in their big networks. Now, managing the sensors and making sure that the data is correct and reliable is a critical challenge. The SUSEE collaboration is formed to solve this challenge and uses IOTA Tangle as the backbone of the distributed monitoring system.

SUSEE is a research project consisting of major players in the data and energy industries. It aims to find a solution for designing a scalable system in data management. In simple terms, the final solution will help customers have reliable and secure data transmission and processing in sensor networks. Members of the organization will work on the solution and provide a comprehensive solution that complies with the standards of the German Federal Office for Information Security.

Managing data transmission in sensor networks needs various tools and services from different companies. Cloud computing, networking, and IoT systems are essential in this solution. Andreas Baumgartner, CEO at mCloud Systems and Consortium Lead, said:

“The combination of cutting-edge IoT technologies and protocols enables an unprecedented level of confidence in the wireless transmission of information. Together with the IOTA Foundation and our collaborative partners, we are working on a technical solution that provides a secure and scalable foundation for infrastructure applications through state-of-the-art communications technology.”

IOTA Foundation, a member of SUSEE, will help the team use IOTA distributed ledger technology in data transmission and processing. The technology will be combined with the wireless network protocol LoRaWAN as well as the self-configuring WiBACK backhaul network. Holger Köther, Director of Partnerships at the IOTA Foundation:

“Ensuring data integrity and data management encrypted and securely directly from the edge is the core DNA of IOTA.”
