The Cardano (ADA) network has launched a long-anticipated major upgrade, “Mithril,” a stake-based signature protocol that enhances the speed and efficiency of node syncing times on the mainnet.
In a world driven by constant innovation, blockchain-based networks also need substantial upgrades to increase their network efficiency and compete with other rival blockchains. These routine updates are necessary in order to improve security as well as bolster further decentralization of the network.

What is Mithril?
On July 30, Charles Hoskinson, CEO of the firm that’s behind Cardano (ADA) took to Twitter to announce the launch of Mithril. The new protocol enhances node synchronization speed and efficiency on the mainnet and has been meticulously designed to elevate the security and transaction processing timelines.

As per the official website, Mithril empowers the nodes to swiftly validate block authenticity without the need to download the complete blockchain history, enhancing the scalability, security, and performance of the network.
Not only this, but the new protocol will also expand the kinds of decentralized applications (dApps) it could host. In a nutshell, the Mithril upgrade is aimed at making Cardano better in terms of the efficiency of its speed, security, and decentralized decision-making capabilities.
Furthermore, the architecture of Mithril consists of three key parts: the Mithril Signer, the Mithril Aggregator, and the Mithril Client. Together, these components interact to provide a secure and dependable process, handling everything from creating new key pairs to ensuring that the ledger remains secure.
As the Mithril protocol mainnet beta has now been launched, the team is monitoring the network and expects it to start producing certificates during the next Cardano epoch. In addition to releasing Mithril, Cardano has also introduced node v.8.1.2—a minor update of their node that brings enhancements to the Plutus interpreter. Plutus serves as the smart contract language utilized by Cardano to build DApps on the network.
Cardano Continues to Boost Network
Over the past few months, Cardano makers have put in formidable efforts to bolster adoption as well as bring in several changes. On April 11, ADA maker Input Output Global (IOG) launched Lace 1.0, the network’s first lightweight wallet solution, on the mainnet.

The wallet aims to transform the way users interact with the Cardano blockchain ecosystem as it combines multiple functions in one place. In addition, recently, IOG launched an open-source toolset allowing any user to develop apps. Called ‘Marlowe’, the toolkit offers the community a simple way to create smart contracts and dApps without the need for programming skills or experience with coding.
