Sui Network (SUI) Boosts Web3 Onboarding With “zkLogin” Feature

According to an official blog post, layer-one blockchain Sui Network (SUI), revealed it has introduced a game-changing feature called “zkLogin” (Zero Knowledge login) that would enable a seamless Web3 onboarding experience, allowing users to sign up for Sui-powered apps without having to manage an external crypto wallet.

It has been observed that although the burgeoning Web3 landscape has received a lot of hype as the next evolution of the internet built on a foundation of blockchain technology, thus far, adoption has lagged due to the complexity of onboarding into Web3 and a lack of tools to help users with the process.

In order to mitigate such challenges Sui Network has embarked on a new journey to help new user onboarding into Web3. On September 13, Sui announced the new initiative that would allow users to access decentralized applications (DApps) without the need for external crypto wallets or seed phrases.

Instead, users can log in using familiar credentials from platforms like Google, Facebook, and Twitch, making blockchain-based applications more accessible to mainstream users. Sui stated it will deploy similar integrations with Microsoft, Apple, WeChat and Amazon in the future.

As per the blog post, the L1 blockchain said its zkLogin feature will not only simplify the Web3 onboarding process but also help maintain a high level of security associated with blockchain technology.

Users can leverage the privacy and ownership-preserving features of blockchain-based applications without compromising security. In addition the new feature will also enable various parties to verify assertions without revealing unnecessary information, ensuring a secure user experience. Greg Siourounis, foundation managing director at Sui, noted,

“By enabling users to access dApps with the social logins they have grown comfortable using, zkLogin removes a major hurdle for bringing the benefits of blockchain-based applications to billions of mainstream users.”

Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-Founder and CPO of Mysten Labs explained the cumbersome issues that have been plaguing Web3 onboarding such as the need to sign for transactions, maintain seed phrases, and install Web3 wallets have managed to deter away potential users, whose lives would otherwise benefit from blockchain technologies. He said,

“Too many individuals — whose everyday lives would benefit from blockchain technologies — are irretrievably lost at our doorstep, frustrated at installing Web3 wallets and managing seed phrases.”

Global Firms Race to Simplify Web3 Onboarding

Sui is not alone in its mission to facilitate broader Web3 adoption. Recently, cryptocurrency exchange DYOR announced plans to develop a social media-like application for decentralized finance (DeFi) interactions.

Furthermore, Moxy, a Web3 gaming company, is also leveraging an innovative approach to onboard gamers into the Web3 ecosystem. Earlier this year, Transak, a London-based Web3 payment and onboarding infrastructure provider, picked up $20 million in a Series A funding round.

With the fundraising, Transak aims to enhance its global coverage and fortify the development of its onboarding solutions, with a particular focus on Web3 games and financial applications. In August, tech giant Microsoft announced a new partnership with Aptos Labs, with the goal of accelerating global Web3 adoption.
